Basic Medical Pathology Series

There are 11 learning modules in the Basic Medical Pathology series.  These modules have been listed below in the order in which they are typically presented in most medical pathology curricula.

Each module consists of several components through which the student should progress in the following sequence:

  • Pre-Test: Ten questions are selected at random from the module's question bank to test the student's knowledge of the lesson's material.  Most questions refer to slides of pathological and normal specimens, with up to five magnifications each.  Students are only given feedback as to whether a selected answer is correct or incorrect, not as to why the choice was correct or incorrect.  Scoring is peformed on a sliding scale.

  • Mini-Lecture: A 25-28 minute video presentation is available in streaming media format to aid students in gaining mastery of the lesson subject topic.

  • Study Question Module: Up to 100 study questions are presented referring to slides of pathological and normal specimens, with up to five magnifications of each.  Feedback is provided as to why an answer is correct or incorrect (often including a representative photomicrographic image) and students are allowed to explore each answer choice to learn from the feedback provided by each.  Scoring is performed on a sliding scale.

  • Post-Test: Just as in the pre-test, ten random questions are selected from that module's question bank to test the student's knowledge of the lesson's material.  However, unlike the pre-test, feedback is given as to why a choice is correct or incorrect.
